Travel London by ingiltereyigeziyoruz
London is the city if you love history travel. Very few of the buildings remained. The Fire was so damaging it took the bulk of the city down. Much of what we see wasn't there before 1666. In the frenzy, London became impossible to pass. Rookeries, lanes, alleys and roads appeared and vanished behind buildings. They couldn't build fast enough. People built up. Floor upon the floor. Closely packed were that the floors jutted out over the street. With the passage of years, these buildings were most cases, although you might see in some parts of London.
Today, following the fantastic Fire, Sir Christopher Wren designed and assembled lots of the buildings you see in London. He'd a penchant for churches. St. Paul's Cathedral for instance. It's quite different than it was before 1666. It had been actually a disgrace. Booksellers filled the sq and moved into the vestry itself. There'd been London sellers cries, a market's noise and chaos you'd find everywhere. The doors will be opened and garbage will fill the pews between the drunks alongside other riff-raff. The crime was rampant. There is a story of a rider on horseback galloping into a single entry and out another.
A traveller into the city would not have understood it as Cathedral or a Church. Now we see Christopher Wren's masterpiece, 350 decades old and known for it is architectural beauty through the world. The Tower of London did survive the fantastic fire and if you're a history traveller, it is a must see. It is little further down river, so it survived in great condition after 900 decades of rich history, starting as a royal palace. So much success at the Tower of London. Here, Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry the Eighth had been imprisoned and finally beheaded.
Here, the small Princes were murdered, their bodies discovered in a stairway years later. Who murdered them is still a mystery hundreds of years later and we may only assume. Among the truly early buildings still in existence is an Ancient Rome bath. Not many individuals know about it as viewing is by prior appointment. It is an on The Strand and if you may get in, it is well worth it. Westminster Abbey is another very old building with middle ages origins. It is a masterpiece of gothic architecture. It holds the tombs of several monarchs throughout the hundreds of years and holds the tombs of poets, scholars, politicians, musicians, military commanders and other notables. Westminster Abbey also holds a hidden secret.
